The Escambia Gators did the unthinkable at Emmitt Smith Field Friday Night.
They took to task a Pace team who defeated Pine Forest and Pensacola earlier in the season and came away with a 29-28 victory in a huge district upset.
With less than two minutes to go, Escambia overcame a 28-21 lead with a 65 yard flanker pass from TJ Myers to Shaquille Rodgers for the touchdown. Escambia would go for two and get the conversion to win the game.
With this win, Escambia, Pace, Pensacola, Pine Forest, and Milton all have one loss in district play.
The area's leading rusher Danikiee Hollowell rushed for two touchdowns, including a 71 yard score for the Escambia Gators. Hollowell finished the game with 136 yards and 19 carries.
Dolphins down Panthers
Another upset featured the other Santa Rosa power as Milton fell to Gulf Breeze 23-20 on a last second field goal by Lucas Zalar.
Dolphin quarterback Andy Creech accommodated for all three touchdowns as he rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown, and threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
Eagles soar over Wildcats
With the awkward schedule for Pine Forest, the Eagles came out and stormed through Washington 63-0.
Eagles running back Trebian Suggs exploded quickly for a 94 yard kick return to start the game. The Eagles would then convert a two point conversion, and then recovered a pooch kickoff to get the ball back.
Suggs would cap off that drive with a 32 yard touchdown run, one of his three touchdown runs.
Suggs had four TDs in total. The win sets up a very important matchup next Thursday against Pensacola at Lon Wise Stadium.
Tigers trip Tate
Speaking of Pensacola, the Tigers defeated Tate 32-14.
PHS scored 14 points off of special teams, a 60 yard punt return by Kevon Abrams, and a 45 yard kick return by Jaquan Brown.
The Tigers improved their district record to 3-2 overall in the season, 2-1 in district play.
