LARGO - After suffering a disappointing loss to Armwood in the state playoffs in 2012, the Largo Packers look to bounce big back time in 2013.
There is an abundance of returning talent - particularly on the offensive side of the ball - but the Packers will need to fill the whole of the graduating Juwan Brown.
Enter Donavan Hale. Largo Head Coach Rick Rodriguez immediately told me that Hale was a kid to watch out for. Hale is a 2015 prospect that is also an all-state basketball player. He is a bit on the skinny side, but is very tall and mobile. His teammates raved about him - Hale took practice like business.
Reggie Campbell is another 2015 prospect to keep an eye on. He lead the team in receiving yardage and was tied for first in touchdown receptions with Raheem Harvey.
USF verbal commit Jarvis Stewart looked sharp at practice - playing running back and safety. Jarvis sported green cleats and gloves. He knows how to keep it fun at practice but keeps it business when it's time to get serious.
Another USF verbal commit Frankie Hernandez looked solid in the early going, but had to sit out of practice with some concussion like symptoms. He told me after practice that he was fine. Frankie starts at linebacker with his secondary position being running back.
Raheem Harvey showed impressive ball skills and blocking. Harvey also played safety during the starting defense's 7on7 period. Harvey is tall and slender with a ton of upside. I was very impressed with his route running ability as well as his smooth hands.
2014 athlete Cordell Hudson played well at cornerback and slot receiver. He has solid ball skills at receiver and lockdown cover ability.
A few more notes from practice:
