Tampa Catholic linebacker Tre Watson will keep his diary for each week, and give us a perspective on the recruiting trail. His mother, Christa Phillips-Watson - will also contribute from a parent's perspective.
Here is week 4 - the unexpected
This past week, I learned how small details can make a BIG impact.
Somehow, Coach Callahan from UCF thought that I was a junior instead of a senior when he offered me a verbal scholarship back in May.
As I told you last week, I was looking forward to my visit there. When confirming the details of my visit last Saturday with him, he realized that I am a rising senior. Seems like it wouldn't be that big of a deal right?
Wrong - they are full at linebacker for the class of 2014 so it was a No Go. In that quick instant, my recruitment with UCF ended.
It wasn't anything personal on either side, just a slight issue in the details.
Just goes to show you that recruiting is one serious business. Now, I move on. I have plenty of opportunities elsewhere that I must focus on.
On the bright side, this helped me narrow my decision down with regards to the current offers I have on the table.
But besides that little hiccup, my team is focused on the fact that it's game week baby! That's all I'm really worried about right now! I can't wait to step on the field for the first time this season, my Senior season.
That feeling under the lights never gets old, and that is what I look forward to. I would describe it like this:
Everything else disappears the moment you step out on the field. All the worries, all the struggles - gone!
Only one focus: Football, Football, Football
It's time to make plays, seize opportunities, go to battle as a unified front and bring everything and leave it on that field!
I believe in performance. It doesn't matter how many "stars" someone says you are or where you are "ranked"...what matters is that you bring intensity to the game and have "that dog in you"...that you fight and win each battle and play with composure. SMALL DETAILS CAN MAKE A BIG IMPACT!
I'm ready! My team is ready! Bring on Sickles for the classic...it's game time baby!
Be blessed and Go crusaders!
