THE OUTLOOK -- Meeting twice in four weeks, Palm Bay managed to knock off Heritage last year both times, winning 7-6 to win the district 13-6A title - and again three weeks later to advance in the playoffs 21-14.
This time there's not a district title on the line -as Palm Bay drops down to 5A and Heritage stays 6A, but pride is on the line for the Panthers. Led by sophomore RB Josh Gaines (1184 rushing yards) and QB Clint Moxam, Heritage will come at the vaunted Pirate defense with all hands on deck.
Good thing for Palm Bay its nickname is 'Pirates' as the Jolly Roger will be raised and the deckhands will be in place.
The Pirates are a fixture in the post-season, having qualified all 17 years of coach Dan Burke's career - and winning the 2000 and 2002 state titles in 6A and 4A respectively.
There's nothing special about Palm Bay. No fancy terminology - just smash-mouth speed football at its finest. QB Brian Fallace and Jasmin will team up a few times (Jasmin plays both ways). Defensively, the Pirates are young in the secondary but strong up front. The biggest test will be Moxam vs. the young Palm Bay defense.
