Wekiva (2-0) hung on to win 18-15 over host Edgewater (0-2) in a classic overtime game.
Wekiva ATH Darrion Williams took the opening kickoff back for an 80-yard touchdown return giving Wekiva an early first half lead.
Edgewater WR Craig Rucker kept the Eagles in the game with a 50-yard touchdown run with 8 minutes to go in the fourth, cutting into the mustangs first half lead.
Wekiva RB Deondre Fair led the Mustangs on offense, carrying the ball 16 times for 117 yards and a touchdown, which came late in the fourth to give the Mustangs a 15-7 lead. Fair also hauled in three passes for 33 yards.
Edgewater's backup QB James Douglas came in on fourth down, with a minute and 45 seconds to go in the fourth, and completed a 15-yard pass for a crucial first down to keep the game tying drive alive. The Eagles starting QB Keion Cantrell came back in the game the next play and ran in an 18-yard touchdown with a minute left on the clock. Edgewater RB Joe Clark, who carried the ball 17 times for 65 yards, ran in the game-tying 2pt conversion.
Cantrell fumbled the first play of overtime to give the Mustangs the opportunity to close the game out on their next possession. Wekiva kicker James Varble came in on fourth down, after missing two PATs early in the game, and kicked an 18-yard field goal to put the game away.
