Tampa Catholic linebacker Tre Watson will keep his diary for each week, and give us a perspective on the recruiting trail. His mother, Christa Phillips-Watson - will also contribute from a parent's perspective.
Here is week 6 - Open Season
It's Open Season!!! College coaches have free reign to call me, and they are!
This is going to be a crucial period for me. Now every school gets to show me just how interested they really are in me. If a school can't sit down and dial the phone to call me; well then, they just really don't want me! I don't have any time to waste.
On a really positive note, I have heard from a lot of the schools that I expected to: Illinois, Air Force, Georgia State, Eastern Michigan, and Florida Atlantic; the main ones who I have been hearing from lately.
The biggest surprise though was Boston College! I hadn't heard from them since spring and to be honest, I didn't expect to. But, they are back in the mix now, and they've been telling me some great things. You want to know the best part? They are the first team recruiting me as a Tight End! Well, I guess we will just have to wait and see how it goes.
I went to theUSF vs McNeese State game here in Tampa. Excited for the kickoff to the Bulls' season, still trying to get a feel for how I may fit in there, but also to see a couple of friends/past teammates that are now playing for them! Let's just say it was a stunner. They lost big at home.
My only thought about the USF loss...McNeese State? I don't know what happened at that game, the breakdown was a complete surprise. I will say though, after all that, USF still has a solid football team, they just need to put everything together to get to where they want to. Coach Taggart still impressed me when I talked to him after the game though.
He's got the right attitude and the program just needs to get it too! They need to Do Something! The good news is that it's just one game and they have the rest of the season to rebound and show me what they can do.
They came back stronger, although still didn't get the W against Michigan State. But I am looking forward to this weekend's game against the FAU Owls. Both teams have offered me, so this will be a great game!
But the only game on my mind last week was the CCC game! That game was RIDICULOUS!!! Honestly, we made plays when we needed to and besides one little slip up at the beginning, we dominated them the WHOLE night. Our defense was lights out; sacks, picks, you name it. We made plays all over the field and it was just a matter of time before we cashed in.
The best part about that game is that the critics still won't give us any credit! They say the forced fumble at the end was controversial; I don't think so! They say the calls that CCC got, like when we should have had a safety, were as well. I don't agree!
Anyone who knows about Tampa Catholic football knows they took two from us last year, one we had in the bag, and this year we came to take back what was ours, our PRIDE AND DIGNITY! We knew we had to prove a point! Transfers are cool and all, but we have a team full of guys who have been together. We wanted to prove it to ourselves, we did it for US!
Either way, it doesn't matter. We showed what we could do and now it is time to keep that up and do it again on Thursday against Tarpon Springs. Got to give them credit, they have played well so far.... Key word: so far. If we come out and play like we all know we can, there will be no doubt about Tampa Catholic after Thursday night!
Editor's note: Watson had 10 tackles, 4 assists and 1.5 sacks as well as forced a fumble in Friday's game with Central Catholic. Offensively, he had two receptions for 42 yards.
