Escambia RB Danikeel Hollowell ran for 434 yards and five touchdowns in a 70-54 win over Rutherford. "I want my team to go somewhere, so I have an extra push," Hollowell said. "I'm tired of people saying 'we're not that good'. We have something to prove."
Hollowell has talked to a few schools, but no offers as of yet.
At 5-foot-8, 195 pounds, Hollowell hopes to play on the next level, but has some work to do academically.
"My ninth and tenth grade years, I wasn't that serious about my grades," Hollowell said. "I'm hitting the books hard right now to bring up my core GPA."
In the same game, Rams QB Dallas Davis threw for 238 yards (16 of 24) and three touchdowns, also ran for 190 yards and a touchdown.
Between the two of them - they accounted for 672 yards of offense.
Dexter Carter, Jr (Bolles), scored five touchdowns and finished with 315 all-purpose yards as Bolles cruised to a 50-14 win against Class 5A North Marion (2-1). Carter had TD receptions of 36, 70 and 49 yards, along with a four-yard TD run. He also had a 100-yard interception return for the Bulldogs (3-0). Looking at the standings, some things jump out at us. In 1-6A, the three teams that have dominated the district are a combined 0-9. Pine Forest, Pensacola and Pace (the three P's) have yet to notch a win this season.
Also things we haven't seen in over 15 years?. Madison County is 1-2 and faces Trinity Christian this week. The Cowboys are looking at losing three games in a regular season for the first time since 1997. It's part of what head coach Mike Coe sets up - perhaps one of the toughest schedules in the state - early on.
Armwood (3-0) faced off with a tough Hillsborough team Monday (winning 37-2) then faces Robinson Friday in what could determine the Knights' standing in a 9-team district. After that Armwood takes on Jefferson Sept. 27(originally, we had the dates transposed. We apologize for the error).
It was not a good day for Rivals250 members facing off with Florida talent. Both Manatee and St. Thomas Aquinas won handily against opponents that featured Rivals100 members. Manatee downed Friendship Academy (Md) 23-13 while St. Thomas handled Louisiana powerhouse John Curtis 27-13.
According to the National Federation record book, Apopka would rank tenth all-time nationally for total yards - while the Darters would be the leader in Florida for most offensive yards* in a single game.
