The Space Coast area has some of the most under the radar recruits in Florida and that D1 talent was on display in Cocoa Beach Friday night.
This game featured the leading passer in the county Nick Rittenhouse but he reminded everyone that he played FB growing up in the PSJ little league. Rittenhouse rushed for a game high 146 yards on 21 carries, 2TD and was 9 for 12 passing for 130yards.
Cocoa Beach, who came in the underdog, took a 14-7 lead going into the half behind the play of dynamic QB and ATH Antoine Griffin. Griffin opened the scoring with a 10 yard TD run in the 1st Qtr and then connected on a 25 yard TD pass to little brother Asante Griffin. Cocoa Beach then extended the lead 20-14 when Griffin to Griffin connected again this time for a 84 yard TD .
Space Coast not to be denied, called Rittenhouse number who later stated, " I love the ball in my hands. Put the ball in my hands and great things happen." On the following drive Rittenhouse rushed for 50 yards leading his team to the goal line where Brenton Crouch rushed it in for the TD.
The 4th Qtr was filled with great play after great play. Space Coast Devin Cannon returned a punt 90 yards for the tying TD. The following extra point kick was blocked by Antoine Griffin. Cocoa Beach then drove down the ten yard line with 2:20 remaining. Consecutive penalties moves the ball back out to the 42 yard line where they were forced to punt.
Nick Rittenhouse then threw a 45 yard pass followed by a 20 yard run, then a 14run, and finally a 6 yard TD with :55 remaining in the game.
Cocoa Beach marched down the field on a great play by Antoine Griffin who dodged and juked 4 defenders, then threw a 60 yard completion down to the 20 yard line with :20 remaining. His Hail Mary attempt as time expired was batted down giving the victory to Space Coast. Anotine Griffin finished 10 for 20 for 286 yards passing ,2TD and 14 carries for 70 yards rushing,TD.
Next week Space Coast will travel to Orlando Jones, while Cocoa Beach will travel to Holy Trinity Episcopal.
