A 3-0 start to the season, a nationally ranked rushing attack, and a performance by one Danikeei Hollowell that bested Trent Richardson's single game rushing record, there was still some out there that wanted to see a little bit more from Escambia High School and Head Coach Willie Spears in his second year as the head Gator.
Well now you have it. Escambia is for real.
The Gators improved their record to 4-0, 1-0 in district play after pounding Pine forest 24-7 in a very physical performance. The Gators were able to force five turnovers, and dominate the line of scrimmage that saw Hollowell eclipse the 1,000 yard rushing mark.
Hollowell had two touchdown runs in the game, his first that opened the scoring from 35 yards out, followed by a 12 yarder that iced the game for the Gators.
This also marks the first time in 10 years the Gators knocked off Pine Forest.
Escambia will now enjoy a bye week and prepare for its historic matchup against Pensacola, which was victorious over Milton tonight 28-14 to earn the Tigers' first win.
Pine Forest who is still in search for their first win will face Tate next week, who defeated West Gadsden 35-0 to improve to 3-1 on their homecoming night and also honored their 1962 Baseball State Championship that was led by MLB Hall of Famer Don Sutton.
