THE OUTLOOK -- Two nationally-renowned programs collide when Miami Booker T. Washington takes on Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman.
Led by FSU verbal commit Treon Harris (59-of-77, 883 yards, 12 TDs, one INT), the passing game is really what makes the Booker T. offense go. The receiving corps is among the fastest in the nation, led by Lamar Parker (West Virginia) and Deltron Hopkins (Appalachian St.) They've combined for 56% percent of Harris' completions, but this unit is deep and fast, and any number of receivers can hurt the Bishop Gorman defense. 2016 RB Mark Walton (Miami) is seeing his role increase in the Booker T. offense. He's rushed 25 times for 266 yards and seven scores, averaging over 10 yards per carry.
Defensively, the Tornadoes have only given up 37 points in five games. The defensive line is among the most talented and athletic in the country, with DEs Chad Thomas and Demetrius Jackson both committed to Miami. Nigel Bethel II (Miami) is among the best cover corners in Florida. It's a stout defense that's really only been tested once this season.
Bishop Gorman has a dual-threat playmaker at quarterback that could present some challenges, but nothing Booker T. hasn't seen already in Carol City's Trayone Gray and Jackson's Quinton Flowers. Sr. QB Randall Cunningham II-you guessed it, the son of Philadelphia Eagle QB great Randall Cunningham-has offers from LSU, Mississippi St., Baylor, and Arizona St. He's Bishop Gorman's primary offensive weapon and if he struggles Friday night, so will the entire offense. Cunningham is 49-of-90 for 690 yards, with six touchdowns and two interceptions through the air. Junior TE Alize Jones is an elite prospect (14 receptions, 240 yards, four TDs) who's already earned 13 offers. Cunningham leads the team in rushing with 74 carries for 449 yards and two touchdowns, and RB Daniel Stewart gives the Gaels another productive option on the ground, rushing for 413 yards and seven touchdowns.
Defensively, DBs Armand Perry (Arizona St.) and Nicco Fertitta will have their hands full and must play the games of their careers to slow down the Booker. T. passing attack. Gorman's defense as a whole must tighten up and force Harris and company into making mistakes. The Tornadoes have committed 83 penalties and must become more disciplined heading into the playoffs.
