PLAYERS TO WATCH:
THE OUTLOOK In a four team district, a loss in the first game means you have to play catch-up.
Such is the fate of the loser of Friday's game between Fort Pierce Central (4-0) and Vero Beach (4-0).
The winner has the early inside track with two more games - while the loser cannot afford to stumble again.
Both teams have 'fly-to-the-ball' defenders, but FPC may be getting Rivals 3-star and former Florida commit Sharieff Rhaheed back from a pre-season injury. If that is the case, the Cobras will have a stout defense to face off with Pro-style threat QB Dalton Stokes from Vero, who will look to connect with WR's Will Dawkins and Jason Pierre.
Stokes is averaging 245 yards per game passing and lit up George Jenkins for 293 yards and three touchdowns, but threw three INT and was sacked four times. That may be the difference maker.
The Vero line has got to contain Louisville commit DE Rashawn Shaw. Shaw is a force against both the run and the pass.
Offensively for the Cobras, it's QB Sam Vaughn who drives the offense - which won a tight game with Kissimmee Osceola 22-16 a couple of weeks ago. Fort Pierce Central is battle tested, moreso than Vero - which is why we give the Cobras the nod.
