PLAYERS TO WATCH:
TRENTON QB Stephen Smith, RB Melvin Adams, WR Hamp Cheevers
CHIEFLAND - DE Payton Parnell, LB Billy Hammond, RB Alphonso Timmons
THE OUTLOOK The Class 1A state runner-up Trenton Tigers may have lost RB Cedric Stokes off last year's team, but they returned QB Stephen Smith - who is the leading offensive threat for the 3-1 Tigers.
Smith, a dual-threat QB, can beat you with his arm or his legs. He leads the team with over 500 total yards, including 288 through the air. His main target is sophomore Hamp Cheevers.
When the Tigers run the ball, Smith and Melvin Adams are the two main threats.
Chiefland comes in at 5-0 but has the meat of its schedule up - with the Tigers first in a four-team gauntlet with Williston (3-2), Dixie County (5-0) and Union County (5-1) on deck. - all three of which are district games.
The Indians are led by RB Alphonoso Timmons and LB Billy Hammond. QB Shaquille Patterson is effective when he has to be - throwing 21 times and completing 11 for 288 yards and 7 touchdowns. Timmons (77-659-6 TD) and Deshawn Roland are the two main backs on the offense.
It should be a clash of styles with the Indians averaging 8.8 yards per carry on the ground. Trenton - on the other hand, Trenton doesn't give up a lot of points - averaging just 9 points a game
