In a battle for the district championship in 6A-9, Mainland defeated Seabreeze 17-0 to wrap up a home playoff game in two weeks.
Mainland rode the momentum of two first quarter blocked punts by Kalik Williams to an early 10-0 lead and the Bucs defense held off a resilient Seabreeze offense to claim the win.
Seabreeze actually out gained Mainland 115-106 in the first half, but the critical special teams plays were the difference as the Bucs took a 10-0 lead to the locker room.
Seabreeze appeared to cut the lead to 10-6 in the 3rd quarter on a 75-yard TD pass from Connor Blair to Charles Nelson, but the played was called back due to a holding penalty.
Mainland put the game out of reach with a 13-yard TD run from former Sandcrab Trevaughn Rodriguez with five minutes to go in the game.
With the win, Mainland will host Lake Mineola in the first round of the FHSAA playoffs, while the Sandcrabs will have to travel to Leesburg to face the champions of District 6A-10. Those games will be played on November 15th.
