Over the history of the Booker T. Washington program, they've had to endure heartbreaking losses to their cross town rival, Miami Northwestern. Heading into another huge battle with the Bulls, the setting was there for another gut wrenching loss. However, senior standouts Quinton Dunbar and Lynden Trail put a halt to the over 10 year drought as the Tornadoes stunned the Bulls with an emotional 35-28 victory earlier tonight at Traz Powell Stadium.

Trail was a one-man wrecking crew finishing with 8 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and two sacks for the Tornadoes. RB Eduardo Clements provided a big spark offensive spark, adding two touchdowns. The Bulls threw together some late magic, but it wasn't enough as the Washington defense forced six Northwestern turnovers, gaining revenge on the Bulls' narrow 31-29 win a year ago.

There comes a time where every team has make a statement. On Saturday night at Traz Powell in front of a capacity crowd, the Booker T. Washington delivered that message with an improbable 35-28 win rallying from a 12 point deficit early in the first half.

"Oh man, I don't know what to say except that this was everyone just coming together and playing their part. Our defense showed a lot of looks to confuse Teddy Bridgewater, but the bottom line is we didn't care that this team was ranked really high on this other team wasn't. All of our guys wanted this one badly for our fallen teammate Anthony Smith, who passed away earlier this year," explained Booker T. Washington DE Lynden Trail.

The start of the game looked like the same powerful and explosive Northwestern offense as Bulls talented junior QB Teddy Bridgewater dissected the Tornadoes defense with long receptions to wide receivers Eli Rogers and Michaelee Harris. The Bulls then kicked off the scoring with a 20 yard scamper by Corvin Lamb. Northwestern then padded that lead with a 18 yard touchdown pass from Bridgewater to Rogers to extend the lead to 12-0 after two missed two point conversion runs from Bridgewater.

After spotting the Bulls an early lead, the Tornadoes offense finally woke up as QB Jeremiah Hay started to heat up with two long receptions from WR Quinton Dunbar. Three plays later, the Booker T. Washington offense finally gave the Tornadoes something to go wild about as Hay hit a wide open Dwight Hopkins for a 43 yard touchdown reception closing the gap to 12-7. On the very next series, the Washington defense forced the first big turnover of the game after a fumble from Corvin Lamb. Lynden Trail scooped up the loose ball and sprinted 11 yards for the touchdown giving Washington their first lead of the game at 14-12.

"That fumble recovery from Lynden just changed everything for us as far as momentum goes. We knew at that point we had their offense frustrated and we just kept battling," replied Quinton Dunbar.

With momentum clearly heading in the wrong direction, Bulls QB Teddy Bridgewater on 4th on 5 showed why he's considered one of the top junior prospects in Florida as he took off on a quarterback sneak and bolted 58 yards for the go ahead touchdown. In a blink of an eye, Northwestern was back in control. Bridgewater added a two-point conversion to increase the margin to 20-14 with just four minutes left in the half.

Despite regaining the lead, the Bulls continued to struggle to get a grasp of the Tornadoes offense. QB Jeremiah Hay methodically moved the Tornadoes down the field after a long reception from Jayvon Wrenz for 44 yards. Four plays later, Hay capped off the drive with a two yard touchdown run. Following the extra point from Oscar Diaz, the Tornadoes regained the lead at 21-20.

Having the lead going into the halftime break was good, but Booker T. Washington had to been in this position before. However, the Tornadoes wouldn't waste that first half effort. The Tornadoes defense went right back to work as sophomore defensive back Amos Leggett intercepted an errant Bridgewater pass and returned the pick all the way down to the Bulls 1-yard line. Three plays later, Eduardo Clements extended the lead with a 4 yard touchdown run to move the lead out to 28-20.

The defense continued to harass Bridgewater with constant pressure from Trail and Tornadoes defense. Much like he did in the first half, Trail left a lasting impression on the Bulls offense. Facing a 3rd and 4, Bridgewater rolled to the right, but was blind sided with a hit, fumbled, and Trail was there to scoop up the fumble and sprinted 66 yards setting up another touchdown run from Clements. That miscue gave the Tornadoes a lead at 35-20 they wouldn't relinquish despite a late touchdown from Bridgewater to close the gap to 35-28.

Bridgewater did get one more chance at pulling off a miraculous last minute drive, but a 4th and 10 harmlessly fell to the ground, and the celebration was on for the Tornadoes. This time they wouldn't let this one slip away and held on for a 35-28 win. Bridgewater had a game to forget finishing with 257 yards passing, and three interceptions, as well as two fumbles.

Following the excitement after the game and the huge win teammates, Lynden Trail and Quinton Dunbar had more stunning news.

"I just wanted everyone to know that after thinking about this decision I've decided to become a Florida Gator. I felt like it was time to let everyone know about it," said Trail.

A few minutes later teammate, Dunbar joined the commitment party.

"Hey Lynden, I'm a Gator as well. I talk with the Florida coaches all the time and I couldn't think of a better situation so today I'm officially a Florida Gator."

Following the game both Dunbar and Trail indicated they would be calling head coach Urban Meyer the staff to let them know about the good news. FlaVarsity.com will have continuing coverage of the possible commitments on Trail and Dunbar later this weekend.
