Gamecocks like Florida LB

Orange Park (FL) LB Demetre Baker is one of Florida's best-kept secrets, but Steve Spurrier, Jr. did not let him hide away for long.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Baker claims an impressive offer list.

"So far, I have one from South Carolina, Southern Miss, UGA, Michigan State, and FIU," he said.

According to Baker, two in-state programs could be on the verge of extending an offer to him.

"Florida and Miami are going to offer me soon," he said. "They both want me to come up to their camp and get to know them and everything."

While Baker does not know a lot about the University of South Carolina, he is familiar with Coach Steve Spurrier.

"I know he came from the Gators and then went to South Carolina," he said. "My coach, Danny Green, is from Lake City in South Carolina and his son Danny Green played for South Carolina."

The two-way standout talked about Steve Spurrier, Jr.

"He saw what he needed to on film and offered me," he said. "I think overall he's a good coach. He seems like a good person. I try to judge people on their character."

Baker also plays running back for Orange Park, but projects as a linebacker at the next level. He claims no favorites.

"I really don't want college football a lot," he said. "I never watch any games except just skimming through."

There is no certain timeframe for his decision.

"I want to visit all of the schools that have offered me," he said. "I want to narrow it down later to like five because you only get five official visits."

There is one big factor in Baker's recruitment.

"I don't want to play at a losing school," he said. "I want to go somewhere that needs some freshmen to come in and step up and just help keep their program up. I want to be a piece of a puzzle."
