Alright folks, here we go, the state semi-finals are here for class 1A. The Road To Orlando has one more step for 1A and 2A

We should be in-store for a great Friday night in all four classifications. I will begin by breaking down the Class 1A and 2A semi-finals.

Last week in 1A - we went 3-for-4 in our picks, with Newberry foiling our perfect predictions, but that's okay. The Panthers will travel to Trenton to play a Tigers team who has been one of our perennial favorites from the beginning.

In our other semi-final matchup Northview faces Liberty County. The Chiefs and Bulldogs were in dog-fights last week edging their opponents by a touchdown. Could we be in store for a close game between these two?

Northview (9-3) at Liberty County (10-2)

The Skinny: Both Liberty County and Northview are teams we have predicted to make it to this point and now the two will face off against each other. Northview edged Freeport in overtime, 34-28. RB La'Mikal Kyles finished the night with three touchdowns and 121 yards rushing. Meanwhile in Bristol, the Bulldogs defense kept Blountstown offense in check and had just enough on offense to get by with a 14-7 win. Northview has loved to put up points all season but will come against a Bulldog defense that has allowed little to no points all season, the most being 26 against Marianna. Liberty County has won 10-straight at home and will look to make it 11 earning a trip to Orlando.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Neiko Robinson - NORTHVIEW DB, Neiko Robinson - LIBERTY COUNTY ATH Alex Marlowe.

Prediction: NORTHVIEW

Trenton (12-0) at Newberry (9-3) The Skinny: Our one incorrect prediction came with previous undefeated Union County falling to Newberry, 18-13. The Panthers were able to avenge a regular season defeat last Friday thanks to a stealer defensive performance and running back Ra'kheem Hoyt's 116 yard two touchdown performance. Meanwhile, the lone undefeated team left in 1A took care of business against Lafayette, 42-26. The Tigers have remained undefeated this season because they stick to what they do best, run the ball and play defense. The way both teams run the ball - this game may be the first to finish. The Tigers will travel up the road to Newberry and will need to key on Hoyt to preserve an undefeated season and book a trip to Orlando. EDITOR'S NOTE: ROBERT PICKS TRENTON, STEVE PICKS NEWBERRY
Prediction: TRENTON

North Florida Christian - the defending state champions - were dethroned last week at the hands of University Christian in Jacksonville.

Down south, Florida commit Kelvin Taylor saw his high school career came to end thanks to the battle-tested Dade Christian Crusaders.

Two teams who several didn't see advancing are now one game away from reaching the state finals. For University Christian, a team with plenty of rich-history it would be chance to end an 18 year drought, winning it all in 1994.

Standing in these schools' way are Warner Christian who face University Christian and First Baptist Academy who face Dade Christian.

If ever there were a Cinderella in 2A - it's First Baptist Academy - making its fourth-year in varsity football count.

After an 8-0 start in round one, we were 3-1 in round two - giving us a record of 11-1 thus far in 2A.

University Christian (11-1) at Warner Christian (11-1) The Skinny: University Christian is looking to make a return to its glory days when it won six-state titles from 1973-1994 - the year of birth for some of its players. What University Christian was to the early 90's - Warner Christian has been for the last five years or so. The Warriors have been to the state finals three out of the past four years. Warner lost its long-time head coach Andy Price to another job during the spring and almost lost star running back Marcus Dixon. Dixon decided to stay and coach Steve Allen has utilized the multi-talented athlete.. This UC squad isn't a team where you will find a ton of premier prospects but what they do have is a bunch of playmakers all over the field. This includes North Carolina-commit, defensive end Marquis Haynes who has helped lead a stout Christian defense. The Christians will turn to him to create some disruption in the backfield and create turnovers. University Christian will certainly be tested by the Eagles Friday who average 44.3 ppg doing it the old fashioned way by running a pro-set offense. This is not to knock a Christian offense, led by Tim Betros and Jeremiah Hamlin (Richmond) - which is averaging 51.5 ppg. An offensive shootout could be in-store for this one.

First Baptist Academy (12-0) at Dade Christian (12-0)

The Skinny: B The battle of the two-undefeated squads takes place in Miami where Dade Christian will host First Baptist of Naples. The Crusaders surprised several by ending Glades Day RB Kelvin Taylor's remarkable high-school career last Friday. Perhaps the only people that weren't surprised were the Crusaders who have continued to defy odds all season. For First Baptist it has been a work in progress, constantly building a better win-loss record the past four years and now stand just one game away from reaching Orlando. The Lions are a run-centric offense averaging 358.5 yards-a-game and don't expect that to change. Led behind the two-back tandem of Jonah Bueltel and Chris Dorill the Lions will look to wear down Dade Christian. The Crusaders will need another big performance from two-way star Gary Sampson who had 306 all-purpose yards and an interception against Glades Day.
