Championship game set

OCALA -- The top two teams flexed their muscles and advanced to the championship game of the 39th annual Kingdom of the Sun boys' basketball tournament at Ocala Vanguard.

Louisville Ballard (KY) routed the Cinderella of the tournament, Greensboro West Gadsden, 75-35, in the first semifinal.

The Bruins (9-3), the No. 1 overall team in the Kentucky hoops' rankings, built a 41-23 lead and eventually forced a running clock at the end of the third quarter as they built a 65-30 lead.

Sophomore Jalen Perry scored 17 points, and junior Kelan Martin added 15 points, both coming off the bench. Senior Brandon Shingles, who scored 35 points in an upset of 6A Ocala Vanguard on Thursday night, led the Class 1A Panthers (10-4) with 10 in the loss.

Class 8A Deerfield Beach, ranked second in the state in Florida's highest classification, held off Cincinnati LaSalle (OH), which was attempting to tie Vanguard's mark of three Kingdom titles, 49-41.

The Bucks' (19-1) defense set the tone early, shutting out the Lancers (4-5), 11-0, in the opening quarter. They were led in scoring by Lamar signee Marcus Owens with 19 points.

In the consolation bracket, Coral Springs Christian rallied from an 11-0 deficit and eliminated Panama City Rutherford , 65-61, in overtime. Junior Khaliel Spearman led the Rams (12-3) with 18 points in the loss.

The Crusaders (10-4), who were led in scoring by Long Island signee Nura Zanna with 27 points, will meet Orlando Dr. Phillips for the consolation championship.

The Panthers (10-4) built a 14-0 lead and cruised to a 69-33 win over Ocala Forest (10-3) as senior Tyriefe Beard scored 22 points to pace three players in double figures. Sophomore David Stephen added 13 and Memphis signee Rashawn Powell had 10 points.

In other action, five players scored in double figures as Orlando Boone defeated Gainesville, 80-57. Juniors Blake Sanderson and BJ Taylor shared game-high honors with 18 apiece, followed by Stanford signee Schuyler Rimmer (17), and seniors Robby Irwin (10) and Dominique Wilson (10).

Morgan County (GA) will play the Braves for fifth-place.

The Bulldogs (9-3) got 14 points from junior CJ Turman and 12 points from senior Mike Williams in a 63-42 win over host Vanguard.
