Not many recruiting pundits knew who [db]Todd Centeio[/db] was before December 29. He attended the SFHSS.com/Mastrole Passing Academy combine at Cardinal Gibbons with the expectation of winning the event.

Centeio did just that, awing coaches and media in attendance, walking away with the day's biggest prize.

The freshman quarterback at Royal Palm Beach High School told FlaVarsity that he wasn't surprised by how well he performed.

"I came here expecting to win, so nothing that happened today was a surprise to me."

Centeio, who accounted for 11 total touchdowns last season, played in the Offense/Defense Bowl last Sunday and plans to quarterback BallaNation, a 7-on-7 team from the Palm Beach area.

The young dual-threat quarterback talked about his strengths on the football field.

"I think I proved today I can throw the ball with the best of them," he said. "I pick up schemes and coverage quickly, and I can also run. I don't think I get enough credit for being able to make plays with my legs."

Even after his impressive showing, the freshman was quick to point out that he has much to learn about playing quarterback.

"I need to improve the velocity on my ball, polish my drops, and continue to learn everything I can about being a skilled passer."

Centeio spoke about his favorite programs.

"Everyone likes Oregon, it would be great to play for them. I like Florida State, too. I like the tradition there."

It's a little early to be thinking about recruiting, but Centeio did say he might prefer to play college football in state and attend a program that provides a solid academic program. He currently boasts a 3.5 GPA.
