Florida WR commits to Maryland

Maryland received commitment number twelve on Friday afternoon from two-star Tampa (Fla.) Robinson wide receiver Jahrvis Davenport.

Davenport was on a visit to Maryland and touring campus with recruiting coordinator Ryan Steinberg when he let him know that he was ready to become part of the Terps family.

After originally thinking it was in his best interest to wait before committing, Davenport decided on his visit that Maryland was, "a place I can call home."

Davenport let Steinberg know he was ready to make the call and they gave head coach Randy Edsall the good news.

"He was excited," Davenport began, "because he really feels like this is a good fit for me and he really wanted me because besides my football he feels I can be a good addition to this team because of my leadership role and the way I carry myself on and off the field."

Davenport liked the big city feel of College Park and although he was yet to visit one of his other finalists, Wake Forest, he was sure that College Park was where he wanted to be.

"I hadn't gone to Wake yet, but Marshall, it was too much of a small town for me," said Davenport. "It wasn't a place I could see myself living after football. It was basically instant for me, not instant, but as the day progressed, I felt more and more comfortable. It was just something how I felt about it. I was just comfortable with the place, my surroundings, the people, it just took flight from there."

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound receiver had 39 receptions last season for 667 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns.

As for what Davenport will bring to the field, he says it's his explosiveness and work ethic that grabbed the attention of the Maryland staff and should have Terp fans excited.

"Basically my explosiveness and my way to turn a five-yard catch into a 70-yard run, things like that.

"I'm a hard worker and I have a lot to bring to the table."

Davenport becomes the Terps' second commitment from the state of Florida and continues Maryland's red hot streak, now at 10 commits in the past 13 days.

Davenport chose Maryland over offers from Marshall, South Florida and Wake Forest.

TSR will have much more on Davenport's commitment coming soon.
