Andre Reese Named 2002 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football
GAINESVILLE – Pierson Taylor senior running back/linebacker Andre Reese was named the 2002 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football award winner following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school football coaches and prep media representatives.

Reese is the 11th winner of the annual award, sponsored by Florida Dairy Farmers, Inc., and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association to honor the top high school football player for the 2002 season. He was also the 2A Player-of-the-Year as a junior, when he finished sixth in the Mr. Football voting.
Reese rushed for 2,347 yards, averaging 9.9 yards on 238 carries, with 37 touchdowns and 15 extra points as a running back. On defense, he compiled 119 tackles, including 27 tackles for losses, with four interceptions and four fumble recoveries.
"This is an award that the Florida Dairy Farmers are proud to sponsor each year and it gives us great satisfaction to see an athlete such as Andre win it," said Michele Cooper, CEO of Dairy Farmers, Inc. "We consider this a very elite honor for our state and we’re confident he will be a wonderful representative of this award."
Reese, who was earlier chosen as the Class 2A Player-of-the-Year, finished ahead of 1A Player-of-the-Year Ernie Sims, a running back/linebacker from North Florida Christian, as well as four other classification winners. Reese received 136 points, with Sims next at 122 points.
3A-Player-of-the-Year Xavier Lee, a quarterback from Daytona Seabreeze, finished third with 112 points. Rounding out the balloting were 5A Player-of-the-Year Matthew Hardin from Springfield Rutherford (98 points), 4A Player-of-the-Year Reggie Nelson from Palm Bay (93 points) and 6A Player-of-the-Year Alan Abrams from Apopka (72 points).
The Florida Dairy Farmers Sports Awards Program exemplifies Dairy Farmer’s Inc.’s commitment to the state’s youth. While honoring the state’s top athletes, coaches and scholars in all 22 FHSAA-sanctioned sports, the program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
Reese will be honored, along with winners in the other 21 high school sports, at the 11th annual "Florida Dairy Farmers Banquet for Champions" on June 28, 2003, at Hard Rock Live Orlando at Universal CityWalk in Orlando.

Richard Wood Named 2002 Florida Dairy Farmers Football Coach-of-the-Year
GAINESVILLE – Tampa Wharton High School football coach Richard Wood was named the 2002 Florida Dairy Farmers Football Coach-of-the-Year following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school football coaches and prep media representatives.
Wood is the 11th winner of the annual award, sponsored by Florida Dairy Farmers Inc., and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association to honor the top high school football coach for the 2002 season.
"Florida’s milk producers are proud to sponsor this sports award program for the 11th consecutive year," said Florida Dairy Farmers CEO Michele Cooper. "Coach Wood is a great example of the impact high school coaches have on their team and in their community."
Wood, who was named Class 5A Coach-of-the-Year two weeks ago, finished with 149 points in the balloting to outdistance runner-up Joey Wiles from St. Augustine (131 points), the 3A Coach-of-the-Year. Binky Waldrop from Punta Gorda Charlotte (122 points), the 4A Coach-of-the-Year, placed third, followed by 2A Coach-of-the-Year Frankie Carroll (75 points) from Madison County, 1A Coach-of-the-Year Mike Hayde (66 points) from Fort Meade and 6A Coach-of-the-Year Frank Hepler (44 points) from Plantation.
In his 5th season at the school, Wood led Wharton (13-2) to its most successful season in school history by reaching the 5A state championship game in its first trip to the playoffs. Wood,. a former Tampa Bay Buccaneer player, is 21-31 overall at Wharton.
