City Of Palms Day 2: U-School Takes Down Molloy

FORT MYERS, DEC. 19, 2017 – Wesleyan Christian (High Point, N.C.) jumped out to a 12-point lead at the end of the first quarter, then weathered a second quarter Orlando Christian Prep rally, before coasting to a 63-52 win at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

Jaylen Hoard (Wake Forest) led Wesleyan Christian with 23 points and five rebounds, Shawn Walker Jr., had 14 and Aaron Wiggins (Maryland) added 13 points and seven rebounds.

OCP senior Nassir Little (North Carolina) had a game high 24 points, but he only attempted two shots for two points in the second half. Renaldo Segu (Buffalo) had eight points and five assists and C.J. Walker added 8 points (on 4-of-4 shooting) and three blocks.

RANNEY HANDLES CANTERBURY

In the first consolation game of the week, Bryan Antoine had a game high 30 points, on 14-of-20 field goals to lead Ranney School (NJ) to a 70-59 win over Canterbury (Fort Myers).

Ranney School shot 57.4 percent on the day, and a blistering 68 percent in the first quarter, when the Panthers built a 24-11 lead. Canterbury never threatened after that.

Antoine, the No. 7 ranked prospect in the 2019 class, also had eight steals and five rebounds. Savior Akuwovo had 12 points and five rebounds while Scottie Lewis, the No. 8 ranked prospect added 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting. Lewis played through the pain of a dislocated finger on his non-shooting hand.

South Alabama signee Berrick JeanLouis had 24 points and nine rebounds, both team highs for Cantebury.

GULIVER PREP GETS BY LEHIGH

In a game that was closer than the final score would indicate, Gulliver Prep (Miami) defeated Lehigh (Fort Myers) 77-70 in a Sunshine Series game.

Gulliver Prep sophomore shooting guard Jamal Mashburn Jr., had a game high 24 points. Point guard Gabe Taylor had 19 and Tony Sanders added 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals. The Raiders shot 53 percent for the game, including 37.5 percent beyond the arc.

Bershard Edwards had 20 points and five rebounds for Lehigh. Delshawn Green added 12 points and six rebounds.

MEMPHIS EAST COASTS PAST LAKEWOOD RANCH

Memphis East got a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds from five-star big man James Wiseman, he also had three blocks, and was never seriously threatened by Lakewood Ranch in a 76-58 victory. Even when Memphis East scored just 12 points in the third quarter, they limited Lakewood Ranch to 10 points.

Derrin Merriweather added 12 points for Memphis East, while Alex Lomax (Wichita State) and Chandler Lawson each had eight points and eight rebounds.

Lakewood Ranch had four players in double figures led by Evan Spiller (15), Keon Buckley (12), Jack Kelly and Damien Gordon each had 11.

U-SCHOOL TAKES DOWN MOLLOY

Junior power forward Vernon Carey, Jr had 23 points and 5 rebounds to lead University School (Davie) to a 75-64 win over Archbishop Molloy (NY). The No. 1 ranked prospect in the 2019 class, Carey Jr., was sensational in the first half running the floor, hitting jump shots, beating 7-foot-2 Moses Brown off the bounce and finishing above the rim.

Carey Jr., also had eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks, two steals and just one turnover. He was joined in double figures by Trey Doomes (West Virginia) who had 18 points, nine rebounds and three steals, and super sophomore Scottie Barnes who added 10 points, four rebounds two assists and two blocks.

Brown, the No. 7 ranked prospect in the 2018 class, seemed caught off guard by Carey, Jr.'s high motor. Brown adjusted some in the second half and finished the game with a very respectable 18 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three turnovers.

Kahlid Moore led Molloy with 23 points, while Cole Anthony posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five assists and two steals.
