2015 OL Zach Baker of Clay (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) visited USF a week ago, and he reports the Bulls helped their cause and that his unofficial visit went very well.
"I spoke a lot with Coach Ron Dugans and I feel he's a real honest guy. I also spoke with coach Paul Wulff and we spoke about the system and how he does things on the offensive line. Coach Wulff, he's a really intelligent guy and I like that he has NFL experience." Baker said. "USF is close to home, which I also like."
Even though Baker pointed out he likes that USF is close to home, location won't determine his college choice.
"It would be great to stay closer to home, but I'm not going to turn down the best opportunity because of distance."
The talented big man shared his favorite part of his unofficial visit.
"My favorite part about the trip was the coaches. It really feels like family. They all said the schedule is tough this year and they're ready to get after it and compete. Coach Dugans told me I can play anywhere, but where else can you go and have a mentor? I really like that about him."
Baker also has verbal offers from James Madison, Mercer, South Alabama, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Troy, and UAB. He told Runningthebulls.com that USF is among his unofficial frontrunners.
"I know USF had a rough year last season, but they have the staff and are getting the players into the program to be successful," Baker commented. "I'd say USF is close to the top, if not my top school right now. But I haven't really been thinking about my favorites, I'm keeping all my options open at this point."
Baker doesn't have any plans currently to camp or take unofficial visits, but did say he wants to visit every program that's offered.
Without an official list of favorites just yet, Baker said he's in no rush to make a verbal commitment.
"I want to go through the spring to see if any more offers pop up, I'll talk to my family over the summer, and I'll go from there."
