CYPRESS BAY WR Jesus Wilson, RB Lorenzo Woodley, RB Daryl Chestnut, QB Tucker Beirne
DR.PHILLIPS
RB Matt Dayes, LB Nico Marley, DB Marquise Dudley-Gordon, OL Jason Rae
The Analysis:
Columbus enters this contest with the #1 Offense in Dade County in total yardage and #2 in scoring (370ypg and 35pts) built on the legs of stud RB's Woodley and Chestnut (committed to Texas Tech), as well as leaning on Sophomore QB Tucker Beirne who has thrown for over 1,600 yards and 13 TD's on the season. They've also got FSU Commit Jesus Wilson when they want to get vertical if necessary.
Cypress Bay isn't exactly chopped liver on offense either. They're #3 in Broward County at 344 yards per game and averaging 30pts a game themselves. They've got the #1 rusher in Broward Co. as well in Matt Dayes. The potential NC State RB has rushed for over 1,500 yards and 22TD's this season out performing some of the biggest names in the recruiting circles.
It's a game between teams that are obviously on paper as close to even as you can get. Cypress Bay rushes for 246 a game, while Columbus goes for 230; however it's the QB position for both, not the RB's that perhaps will determine the outcome of this one. Columbus QB Tucker Beirne has thrown for 11 interceptions and at some point in the game will be asked to make a play that could make or break the Explorers season.
Cypress Bay averages less than 100 yards through the air, but will also need their QB Javanta Lewis to make some throws once the Columbus Defense makes their adjustments. Columbus' trio of Adrian Campbell, Mikey Ferro and [/db]Joe Rodriguez[/db] have combined for 7INT's and 3TD's and could step up and be the deciding factor based on the decisions of Lewis. It's a cliché for sure, but the team that makes the fewest mistakes (turnovers specifically) loses.
Prediction:
Cypress Bay 28, Columbus 25
