Luke Helms (6'2, 228lbs), inside linebacker out of Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby, is staying near home. Luke has committed to FAMU.
"There are a few reasons on why I chose FAMU," says Helms. "Coach Holmes (new head coach of FAMU) has 10 years of playing in the NFL. He knows what it takes to get to the NFL level."
New head coach of FAMU, Earl Holmes, played 10 seasons in the NFL at linebacker, six with Pittsburgh (1996-2001), one season with the Cleveland Browns (2002) and three with the Detroit Lions (2003-05).
"I really like what FAMU stands for on and off the field. My brother plays for them, and it would be nice to play with my brother," explains Helms.
Luke's brother, Matthew Caleb Helms, is going into his sophomore year with the Rattlers. Matthew plays defensive end.
"I really like what they have to offer from an academic standpoint," says Helms.
There were several schools Helms visited including North Carolina and Purdue.
"My brother speaks highly of the coaches at FAMU," explains Helms.
Helms states that he will play middle linebacker for the Rattlers.
Asking Helms what word would his teammates describe him, he replied, "a leader."
