What an exciting way to kickoff the playoff season. A big special teams play to seal a win, and overtime was needed to decide an outcome of a key matchup.
Four quarters was not enough to decide the winner of Milton and Niceville, where the Panthers defeated the Eagles 38-31 to advance to the Class 6A Regional semi finals.
Niceville struck first with Eagles Quarterback Andrew Mitchell scoring on a quarterback sneak to take an early 7-0 lead. Milton's defense would get things going forcing three turnovers in the first half that helped get the Panthers a 17-13 lead at the half.
Milton ATH Andre Flakes had two rushing touchdowns (26,10), and Dejon Funderburk contributed with a 3 yard pick six to jump start the Panthers.
Niceville would start their comeback trailing 31-16 to force the overtime. Milton's Roy Wise would score on a 10 yard TD run on the first play of overtime, and then would stop the Eagles on a 4th and 2 goal line stand.
Milton will host Navarre Friday, who defeated Pace 30-10, really dominating the entire contest.
Navarre would have their way offensively, but missed opportunities in the first half, while Pace struggled to get anything going.
It wasn't till the second quarter as Raiders' running back Jay Warren would score first on a touchdown run to lead 7-0. Navarre was set with great field position inside the pace 20 with a Pace muffed punt.
Pace would answer back with their best drive with Quade Wiemerskirch capping off the drive with a one yard TD run. however that would b the only touchdown of the night for the Patriots. The second half became the Jay Warren Show, scoring his second rushing touchdown of the night, and Raiders QB Andrew Rieves would throw his lone touchdown pass of the night to Michael Smith to increase the lead even further.
The final score was a 70 yard TD run by Warren that sealed the deal for the Raiders.
