Packers win both halves

PALM HARBOR (Fla.) - The Largo Packers, Countryside Cougars, and Palm Harbor Hurricanes all met on Thursday night for the spring jamboree game. They all played one half against each other.
Largo 21 Palm Harbor 0
USF verbal commit Jarvis Stewart saw a healthy dose of carries - racking up 109 yards and a touchdown.
On Largo's first touchdown drive, Raheem Harvey caught a quick pass and broke a tackle for a big play. This was Largo's only pass on their first touchdown drive. USF verbal commit Frankie Hernandez carried the ball as well at running back. Stewart punched in a goal line run to cap their first score.
Later in the half, Largo QB Donavan Hale hit Cordell Hudson on a beautiful pass between the Palm Harbor safeties for a first down. Down near the goal line, Hale threw a pretty fade pass to Harvey for their second touchdown.
After a blocked punt, Largo set up near the goal line and Frankie Hernandez scored on a short run to go up 21-0.
Largo looked dominant on defense - Palm Harbor could not get any momentum going on offense. Frankie Hernandez shut down the Hurricanes rushing attack.

This match-up was a very entertaining half of football. The opening kick off was returned by Cordell Hudson for an 85 yard touchdown.
"I knew their kickoff was strong in the middle," Hudson said. "I knew the outsides were a weakness cause they didn't have anybody out there really. I just figured I'd just take it to the sidelines and try to outrun everybody."
A match-up to watch in this game was two big time D1 prospects in Largo WR Raheem Harvey and Countryside DB Mike Johnson. Harvey was targeted several times on slant routes against Johnson - but couldn't connect on any of them.
The play of the game was by Donavan Hale as he avoided a near safety and ran for a first down. Hale is also an all-state basketball player.
Mike Johnson ran the ball a few times for Countryside and pounded in a goal line touchdown which was set up by his fabulous punt return down to the three yard line.
On the ensuing possession, Hale threw a bomb to Harvey which was slightly underthrown - Johnson made a highlight real interception. The interception set up Countryside deep in their own territory - and quarterback Robby Hicks threw an interception in his end zone to Largo defensive lineman Jarvis Sanders.
With the JV players in under 3 minutes left in the half - Countryside scored a touchdown to even the score at 14-14.
Largo ran a fake field goal with under 30 seconds - Hale hit Harvey for a big touchdown to give Largo the 21-14 advantage. The JV guys were supposed to be playing - but special teams was all varsity - which was why Largo was able to use the fake field goal.
"I think we did well all around," Hudson said. "We've got a couple things we need to work on, but that's the whole point of spring football - find your weaknesses and see what you need to work on for the fall."

Raheem Harvey didn't have his best game but still produced with three catches - two going for touchdowns.
