Resurgent Indians take on Tigers

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Advertisement
Chiefland: OT/DT Jeremy McClellan, QB/DB James Corbin, OL/DE Austin Williams, RB/LB Alphonso Timmons, OL Blayne Brookins
Union County: DE Carl Alexander, RB Walter Mabrey, WR Andrew Jones, RB Prince Alexander, OT Larris Paige
THE OUTLOOK: Union County has outscored its opposition this year, 68-7. However, that is slightly misleading because the Tigers defeated Fernandina Beach, 19-0, and Interlachen, 41-0, before edging Keystone Heights, 8-7, last Friday night.
As those numbers indicate, the UCHS defense has been stout, forcing five turnovers (four on interceptions) in three games. And in Prince Alexander (287 yards) and Mabrey (217), the Tigers have two players who could conceivably rush for 1,000 yards in 2012.
As good as Union County's defense has been, Chiefland's hasn't been far behind. The Indians are allowing an average of 5.3 points-a-game.
Like the Tigers, CHS is coming off its closest game of the season, having won 14-13 at Hilliard last Friday night. Prior to that, Chiefland won 20-3 at Lecanto and 48-0 against visiting P.K. Yonge.
Prediction: Union County 35, Chiefland 14
