Saturday at the Showdown

ORLANDO, Fla. – The annual Showdown in O-Town, hosted by Orlando Christian Prep, is a multi-team event that pits public schools against private schools and a showdown for supremacy. Rivals was in the gym to take in the action and here is our recap.

JONES RALLIES TO DEFEAT LAKE HIGHLAND PREP

Shakur Poteat scored 25 points -- including a corner three with 1.1 seconds left to send the game into overtime -- Omari Jordan had 18 and Dalvin Leggett added 11 to lead Jones High School to a 74-69 comeback victory over Lake Highland Prep in overtime in the Showdown in O-Town on Saturday afternoon.

Poteat was six-for-six from the charity stripe in overtime to help seal the win.

Trailing 38-20 late in the second quarter the Tigers outscored the Highlanders 13-2 to trail by seven at intermission. Jones used a smothering defense to limit Lake Highland Prep to just 19 points in the second half. The Highlanders, who were outscored 17-5 to close out regulation, failed to make a field goal during the fourth quarter. At the other end the Tigers were patient offensively and knocked down free throws to narrow the gap.

Sophomore Brice Sensabaugh led Lake Highland Prep with 26 points, six rebounds one assist and one steal while senior Victor Brown Jr. had 17 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks.

WHITE TIGERS TAKE DOWN EAGLES

Trailing Edgewater High School 44-42 Central Pointe Christian Academy went on a 10-0 run, only allowed the Eagles to score four more points the rest of the game, on the way to a 69-48 victory.

Junior Ali Abdou Dibba scored 19 points to lead Central Pointe Christian, Ramses Melendez added 15.

Edgewater senior Michael Eads Jr., an Appalachian State signee, scored a game high 19 points including six three-pointers.

WARRIORS BLOW OUT COWBOYS

Ranked No. 1 in Class 2A Orlando Christian Prep outscored Osceola High School 19-6 in the second quarter to take control of the penultimate game of the Showdown in O-Town and cruised to a 78-45 thrashing of the Kowboys. All but one player on the Warriors’ roster scored in the game.

Terrance Reece led a balanced OCP attack with 13 points, Sam Ihekwoaba had 12 and A.J. Brown added 11.

Josh Blazquez had a game high 18 points for Osceola in defeat.

WINDERMERE PREP WINS BACK YARD BATTLE

Sophomore Jayden Williams scored 22 points and sophomore forward Fanbo Zeng had 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead Windermere Prep to a 73-68 over Windermere High School in the final game of the Showdown in O-Town at Orlando Christian Prep. The game marked just the second time the two teams have met during the regular season.

Williams, who connect on five three-point attempts, sank two free throws with four minutes left to play to give Windermere Prep a 59-57 lead. The Lakers would not relinquish that lead on the way to their 12th win of the season.

Windermere High School senior Elliott Yorke had a game high 24 points and junior Kanye Jones added 17 in defeat.
