HOMESTEAD - Moments after South Dade pulled off a 37-10 win over Palm Beach Gardens in the Class 8A state semifinal game on Dec. 6, Khalil Render was in tears.
Doing his best to hold them back, Render spoke about the significance of his team's landmark victory.
"There's not too much I can say about it right now," the 2014 dual-threat quarterback said. "I'm just speechless."
Render, who threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in the Class 8A state semifinals, has led South Dade (13-1) to a state title game for the first time in its 60-year history.
"Nobody thought we would go this far in the playoffs," he said. "Some people believed in us and some didn't. We just took care of business and did what we had to do on the field."
Surprisingly, the two-star quarterback has no offers on the table right now. That may change soon, as BCS schools like Syracuse, Arkansas, Illinois and Kentucky are currently showing him a level of interest.
"To be honest, I'm just trying to help my team win the state title right now," Render said. "I don't really know how my recruiting process is looking right now. But if we win state, then I should see those offers rolling in for me."
Will South Dade complete its historic season with an upset win over Apopka (14-0) in Saturday night's Class 8A title game? We'll find out a couple of hours after the 7:07 p.m. kickoff time at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
